What is TRIO Day?

According to the 1986 Congressional resolution, National TRIO Day is meant to focus the nation's "attention on the needs of disadvantaged young people and adults aspiring to improve their lives, to the necessary investment if they are to become contributing citizens of the country, and to the talent which will be wasted if that investment is not made."

TRIO Day has been proclaimed a National Day of Service. We encourage programs to perform some sort of community service-as a way for TRIO to give back to their community and say thank you for its support.

The official TRIO Day is the last Saturday of February every year. TRIO Day events are not limited to this day. For more information on National TRIO Day please visit the COE website ( and click on the 'About TRIO' bar or contact your TASSSP Zone Representative.

Please let the Council for Opportunity in Education and TASSSP Zone Representatives know about your TRIO Day events. They want to hear if any public officials attended, what your events entailed, if you performed any community service activities, how many people were in attendance, etc. Pictures are also greatly appreciated. Need ideas or want to get involved? Contact your TASSSP Zone Representative for more information. Below are some past TRIO Day events that fellow TASSSP members have hosted.
